How did you find yourself in the advertising industry, and what’s been the best part of your journey at VMO so far?
I actually landed in the advertising industry without really knowing what I was getting myself into. I started out in the Val Morgan graduate program, curious to see what it involved, and quickly discovered my love for all things VMO. Every day brought something different, and it was such a unique opportunity to discover so many aspects of the business in such a short time. The best part of my journey so far has definitely been the people. Working alongside such a supporting and fun team has made the experience that much more enjoyable and motivating. A highlight also has to be our 2024 conference to Queenstown, which was such a great mix of learning, connecting, and a bit of adventure!
What’s one work tip or hack you swear by that makes your day smoother?
Definitely writing a to-do list first thing in the morning. It helps me visually map out my day, prioritise tasks, and gives me that little satisfaction of ticking things off one by one. It’s such an easy habit, but it makes me feel more organised and in control, especially when things get busy.
If you could swap roles with someone in the business, who would it be and why?
I’d love to swap with one of our leaders for a day. It would be so interesting to see how they juggle everything including making the big decisions, setting the direction for the team and keeping all the moving parts together. I think it would provide me with an incredibly unique and interesting perspective on how the business works as a whole.
If you could add one item to the office kitchen, what would it be and why?
I have two, popcorn and kombucha. Popcorn is such a great snack option and kombucha is a much more healthy option to soft drink and is super refreshing.
What would you do differently, if you were given the chance?
I don’t think there’s one huge thing I’d change as I feel like most of what I’ve done so far has helped me grow and learn. If I could tweak something, it would be to put a little less pressure on myself when it comes to having everything figured out right away. It’s easy to overthink every decision and feel like you need to know it all, but the best learning often comes through trial and error.
What’s one piece of advice you’d give to your younger self starting out in your career?
Don’t be afraid to ask questions, no one expects you to know everything. Curiosity is such a powerful tool and the more you ask, the faster you learn. I’d also tell myself not to compare my path to others because everyone’s career journey looks different.
If you could master a new skill instantly, what would it be and how would you use it at work?
I’d love to master public speaking. Being able to present ideas clearly and confidently is such a valuable skill, not just for client meetings or team presentations, but for life in general. It's not just about speaking well, it’s also about getting your point across and engaging people.
What is your must-have office snack that helps you get through the workday?
I’m not a huge snacker but if I had to choose one, it would be Vegemite Shapes. They’re an all-time Aussie classic and I feel like they’re also a bit of a crowd-pleaser in our team. No one is ever upset when a box shows up in the office!
Finally, spill the tea (or coffee): What’s your go-to coffee order?
I usually go for an oat cappuccino, hot or iced depending on the day! It’s simple, reliable and exactly what I need to get moving in the morning.
