How did you find yourself in the advertising industry, and what’s been the best part of your journey at VMO so far?
After uni, I wasn’t totally sure where I wanted my career to go, so I started to apply for jobs that I felt would fulfil my creative side. One of the first replies I received was from VMO and I was soon after invited to interview for a position on the New Zealand Commercial team. A few weeks later, I was offered the role and the rest is history! I’m incredibly grateful to have landed a position within the advertising industry straight out of uni.
The best part of my journey at VMO so far would have to be attending the annual Operations conference in Darwin. Having the opportunity to meet everyone from the Australian team and develop those relationships was such a wonderful experience.
What’s one work tip or hack you swear by that makes your day smoother?
I always make a weekly to-do list of everything that needs to be completed. It really helps me keep track of all my work so I don’t miss anything, and I love the satisfaction I get from crossing off completed tasks.
If you could swap roles with someone in the business, who would it be and why?
It would probably be someone from the Marketing team, as I studied English at uni, so I’d love to have a go at writing some of the VMO News articles that they publish.
What skill has been most valuable to your career so far?
I think I have a strength in supporting others, which has really allowed me to bond and deepen relationships with my co-workers.
If you had to teach a masterclass on one thing you’re great at, what would it be?
After working in retail for 6 years, I’ve really honed my small-talk skills. It would definitely have to be that!
What’s one piece of advice you’d give to your younger self starting out in your career?
As cliché as it is, it’s so important to be yourself. I was quite anxious to be my real, silly, and chatty self when I first started out, but the moment I let my walls down, I really started to connect with my colleagues. I feel that it’s really helped me get a lot closer to everyone in the office.
What’s something people would be surprised to learn about?
I have a massive collection of Squishmallows. They’re a type of soft toy that we sold at my retail job, and I got addicted to buying them. My house is now absolutely full of them!
Outside of work, what’s one of your personal goals for 2026?
I really want to read as many books as I can this year. I was an avid reader whilst I was studying at uni; however, since graduating, I’ve fallen into a major reading slump, so I want to make up for lost time.
If your work emails had a theme song, what would it be?
I am a massive Swiftie, so it would have to be a Taylor Swift song. Perhaps ‘All Too Well (10 minute version)’ as I tend to sometimes overexplain in my emails, which can make them quite long.
Spill the tea (or coffee): What cafe near the office is the best, and what is your go-to order?
There is a cafe called Giraffe near the office that not only makes great coffee but also has a close-to-life-sized plush giraffe in the doorway, which makes it even better. My go-to is a soy mocha. I swear by it!
