The Diary of a UMC Competitor: Sam Carlin.

When it comes to the Ultimate Media Champion, the scoreboard only scratches the surface. Behind every burpee, sprint and rep is a competitor with a story worth telling. That’s where The Diary of a UMC Competitor steps in: a new profiling series dedicated to capturing the competitor journey behind the competition.

With each edition, we hand the pen to a new competitor from QLD, VIC or NSW, giving you a front-row seat to their personal road to Ultimate Media Champion glory, including the highs, hurdles and everything in between.

Introducing Sam Carlin, Client Manager at Dentsu QLD.

So Sam, what motivated you to sign up?

I’m back for revenge after just missing out on the title last year. I’ve also lined up a few too many overseas holidays for next year and would absolutely love to take home the Webjet voucher to help me fund them!

What's one thing you've loved the most so far?

I’ve really loved the structure, it’s been a definite highlight for me so far. Having weekly PT-led training sessions paired with webinars by professionals within the fitness industry has been of great consistency for growth.

What personal goal (beyond winning) are you chasing by competing?

My biggest goal is rebuilding a consistent training routine. Having non-negotiable training days has made it so much easier to stay accountable and I really feel like it’s helped push myself forward.

How would you describe your experience so far?

The team has done a fantastic job with planning and structure. The updated sessions and webinars have been engaging and incredibly valuable. I’ve definitely still found the exercises within the training sessions tough, with my least favourite being the assault bike but all of it has been integral to working towards to the finals and building up our physical and mental fitness. It’s been great to see the VMO QLD team members working hard as well!

Looking ahead, what aspect of the competition are you most looking forward to?

I’m most looking forward to the week five webinar titled, ‘Self Care & Time for You’. It sounds right up my alley and I’m eager to attend.
