Meet Joe Sherwood, one of our Sydney-based Senior Account Managers from our Direct sales team.
Coming up on six years with the team, Joe is consistently described by his colleagues as the one who keeps everyone laughing with his great sense of humour and unfiltered comments.

How did you find yourself in the advertising industry, and what’s been the best part of your journey at VMO so far?
My dad was a TV Director and my older brother was an Editor, so it seemed like a career in media was inevitable for me with those influences in my life. Next thing I know, I’m working in advertising within the media industry. I think the best part of my journey at VMO so far has to be the people and culture. It’s truly such a fun place to work.
What’s one work tip or hack you swear by that makes your day smoother?
Prioritise your sleep! I’m a relatively new dad, so my day always tends to run much smoother If I’ve actually gotten a decent sleep the night before.
If you could swap roles with someone in the business, who would it be?
I would happily try out our president and CEO of the HOYTS Group, Damian Keogh’s role for a day. I think it would be interesting to see the view from the top.
If you could add one item to the office kitchen, what would it be and why?
A sushi chef would be quite nice, because why not?
What would you do differently if you were given the chance?
I think I would have done more travelling when I was younger. There truly is nothing better than exploring new places and now that I have kids, there isn’t as much time to do so!
What’s one piece of advice you’d give to your younger self starting out in your career?
Ask more questions, find a mentor and don’t sweat the small things.
If you could master a new skill instantly, what would it be and how would you use it at work?
As I’m nearing the dinosaur age in media, a skill that I would love to instantly master would be understanding everything to do with computers and online programs, immediately. Would probably save IT some time as well as I’m constantly pestering them with questions!
What is your must-have office snack that helps get you through the workday?
A bacon and egg roll. It’s really the only right way to start the day.
If you could host a dream dinner party, which three famous people (alive or not) would you invite and why?
I would invite Ricky Gervais, Bill Burr and Dave Chappelle, as it would hands down be the funniest dinner party to date.
