VMO New Zealand installs Queenstown's first retail large-format digital screen at Five Mile Shopping Centre, opening up a rare buy for media agencies.

Queenstown, New Zealand – VMO New Zealand today announced the installation of a new large-format, double-sided digital out-of-home (DOOH) screen at Five Mile Shopping Centre in Frankton, Queenstown, giving media agencies a fresh option for placing client campaigns in one of the Country’s fastest-growing retail and commercial precincts.

For agencies, the opportunity is a rare one. Queenstown has no external billboards, and digital advertising assets in the region have historically been limited. This new screen gives agencies a scarce, high-impact placement in one of the district's busiest retail catchments – inventory that is hard to come by.

Installation begins in late September, with the screen expected to go live before the end of the month - timed to give agencies a head start on bookings for the region's peak summer advertising period.

Queenstown is internationally known as a winter destination, but agencies planning summer activity shouldn't overlook it: the region is also one of New Zealand's biggest domestic summer tourism drawcards, with strong visitor numbers and reliably good weather drawing both Kiwis and international travellers through the warmer months.

Five Mile serves as a key retail and services hub for the wider Queenstown Lakes district, drawing consistent daily traffic from residents, commuters and visitors alike. That puts client campaigns in front of a high-value, high-frequency audience that agencies have previously struggled to reach with any real scale in the area.

"Queenstown is one of New Zealand's most valuable advertising markets, but it's a market that digital out-of-home has been lacking until now," said Rob Forsyth, Commercial Director at Val Morgan Outdoor. "This new digital install changes that. Working with our commercial partners at Five Mile to get this across the line shows VMO’s commitment to the Retail media segment in NZ, and we have ongoing plans to provide our media partners with new and exciting inventory in retail.

"We're already seeing strong interest from agencies wanting to lock in placements ahead of summer," said Matt Tremain, Sales Director – New Zealand. "This is new territory for digital out-of-home in Queenstown, and demand for a site like this, in a catchment this strong, won't sit around for long. Our advice to agencies is to get in early."

The screen will be fully operational by the end of September 2026, giving agencies time to plan and book campaigns ahead of the summer period.
