How did you find yourself in the advertising industry, and what’s been the best part of your journey at VMO so far?

I started in the advertising industry about eight years ago. Ironically, I spotted a job for a media company in the newspaper. Despite applying for a receptionist role at the company, they took a chance on me after my interview and offered me a media assistant position, despite having no industry experience or a university degree. The rest is history!

What’s one work tip or hack you swear by that makes your day smoother?

I colour-code my calendar invites, with different colours for internal and external meetings as well as events. When my calendar looks organised, my brain feels organised.

If you could swap roles with someone in the business, who would it be?

I’d be interested in swapping roles with someone from the HOYTS Programming team. I really love movies, so getting to have sneak peeks at upcoming films and being part of the decision-making process to get films into cinemas would be super cool!

What would you do differently if you were given the chance?

I’m a strong believer that everything happens for a reason, so I wouldn’t do anything differently.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to your younger self starting out in your career?

Don't stress too much about the HSC and your ATAR; they aren’t as crucial to your career as you might think. Much of what you need to learn comes from real-world experience on the job. Remember to ask questions and absorb as much knowledge as possible from those around you. Most importantly, developing strong people skills can take you far.

If you could master a new skill instantly, what would it be and how would you use it at work?

It would definitely be a tie between mind-reading and speed-reading. Mind reading would make deciphering emails much easier, while speed reading would help me get through long decks way quicker.

If you could host a dream dinner party, which three famous people (alive or not) would you invite and why?

  • Leonardo da Vinci - to see how his mind would process the world 500 years later.

  • David Attenborough - because he'd probably have a story for absolutely everything.

  • Neil Armstrong - not many people can casually say they've walked on the moon.

Spill the tea (or coffee): What’s your go-to coffee order?

I’m actually not a coffee drinker, even though I love espresso martinis! My go-to is tea, specifically Rooibos tea. I’ve found that it helps me wind down at the end of the day.
